A team of ethnologists consisting of Ranko Barišić and Miroslav Draškić started systematic research of the ethnographic heritage in the Monastery on Mount Athos in 1973. The aim of this text is to depict the beginnings of the ethnologists’ work done in the Monastery and also to pinpoint some of the challenges they faced in their work during their first stay in Hilandar.
